Publicis Égalité set out to create an inclusive and deeply educational program to honor and celebrate Trans Awareness Week 2020. That’s how Shine On was born.
Hosted entirely via Marcel Classes, Publicis Groupe’s global internal learning platform, Shine On provided employees and colleagues the chance to see, hear, and learn about what it means to be transgender and/or non-binary. This large-scale event harnessed the power to bring in people from all over the globe—at a moment when so many are feeling isolated and disconnected (hello, 2020).
Leadership: Alicia Case & Maranda Gorr-Diaz
Art Direction and Design: Arthur Germer
Program
Overview
Shine On consisted of over 20 different sessions: from provocative and illuminating panel discussions, storytelling, self-care and fitness workshops, film screenings, interviews, music and ball performances, DJ sets, and more.
All these efforts had one major goal in mind: lifting up voices and showcasing the Trans community—along with special guests, Trans influencers, and speakers.
Speakers included: Alok Vaid-Menon, Imara Jones, Sam Feder and many other inspiring names in the trans and non-binary communities.
p1nkstar:
Authentic
Curatorship
All programming was proudly co-created in partnership with p1nkstar, whose expertise ensured Shine On would showcase the trans community in an authentic light.
p1nkstar is a trans Latinx performance artist, activist, and space-maker in the art and nightlife scene. They acted as an outside curatorial consultant and co-programmer, focused on centering community voices and a collective vision.
Aydian Dowling:
activist, speaker, (Trans)Dad
Along with overall program planning from the ground up with other Égalité team members, I specifically focused on planning efforts around a panel featuring Aydian Dowling.
